New Work, An Evolving Project
What’s with building one chair at a time about ?
This project is still forming itself, initially I was online searching for Chinese chair designs via Google images and AI searches. Intrigued with designs from the Ming Dynasty and before the idea became historically significant designs and how they evolved over time. At the present I have over a dozen possible pieces of interest, some of them overlap others as one would suspect, chair design is an amalgamation of time, purpose, and available materials. There are four chairs finished and one on the way.
So initially, one chair at a time was about digging into the Asian mode for making chairs as the cultures were getting up off the ground. Influenced by our recent venture in Japan, where the culture is still relatively comfortable on the floor.
The problem is where to put all the chairs? Are they for sale?
What’s the cost? What are the materials, the size, etc…
At this time I have none of those answers, but I am engaged in the making, and for the present that is all that matters to me.
